This Week in Third Grade

Reading: We are still looking at nonfiction text. We will continue to explore text features and focus on how to decipher unknown words.

Writing: We are getting close to finishing our expository text. We will be adding in an introduction to our book as well as an About the Author page!

Math:  We will have our first test over Think Math (multiplication strategies) on Thursday. We are specifically focusing on our conceptual understanding. Some things students should be familiar with are: intersecting lines, arrays, groups of, zero property, identity property, and the commutative property.

Science: We just started a new chapter on ecosystems!

Social Studies: We will learn about different symbols of the United States and their meaning.

Other: 
We will have our holiday party on Friday from 1:45-2:45. Prior to the party the teachers will participate in reindeer relays.

This Week in Third Grade

Reading: We are going to continue to focus on nonfiction text. We will specifically be learning how to  monitor ourselves while we are reading.

Writing: We are going to be looking at outside sources and how they can enhance our expository writing.

Math: We are beginning to explore different strategies to use when multiplying. We are focusing on using groups to represent this.

Social Studies:  We finished our government unit today. We will begin exploring different symbols that represent the United States.

Science: We will be taking a test over living things this Wednesday. We will then begin loooking at ecosystems.

Other: 

Music Program is tonight! Please make sure that your student is at the LHS Auditorium by 6PM. The show starts at 6:15. Your child should be wearing green, red, or white unless they are told otherwise. 

School store will be this Thursday. 

Cookies with Santa has been rescheduled to this Friday. 

Scholastic Bookfair will be here all week. 

We have a Early Release day on Wednesday 12/ 11/ 13. Please make sure that your student knows how they will be getting home before they arrive at school on Wednesday.

Music Program Reminder

Tomorrow is our Music Program. It is at the LHS Auditorium at 6:15 PM.

Please make sure that your student is at LHS at 6:00 PM ready to be lined up in holiday attire (red, green, or white).Parents are to stay and watch their student perform.

Students have been working very hard, and they are so excited to perform!

Tigers in Training!



This week we are supporting families here in our own Sappington community by donating everyday items. If a student brings in an item they are able to participate in special dress down day attire. Today's theme was "Dress Down in Your Class's Favorite Color."  The class almost unanimously voted to wear Mizzou colors in order to support their favorite SEC East Champions! The best part is, it was ALL their idea!


Tomorrow is crazy hair and crazy sock day. Students are asked to bring in toothbrushes, toothpaste, and mouth wash.

This Week in Third Grade 12/2

Happy Decemeber! I hope that everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving and had the opportunity to visit with close family and friends. Here is a look at what we are learning this week:

Reading: We are continuing to look at nonfiction books! We will be focusing on the text features that authors use to help convey information to their audience.

Writing: We are going to be working hard on implementing different text structures and text features into our expository writing.

Math: We will finish our time unit  this week with our test on Tuesday. We will start learning multiplication on Wednesday. We will be focusing on multiplication until winter break. Be on the look out for multiplication logs. 

Science: We finished our chapter on inherited traits and characteristics. We will begin the next section which focuses on the life cycle.

Social Studies: We are finishing our unit on government this week. We will be testing later this week.

Other: 
The Scholastic Bookfair will be at Sappington starting on Friday.

Visit with Santa will be on Friday December 5 from 5-8 PM.

School Store is on Thursday December 4.

Our music program will be on December 9.

Once again if you participate in Adopt a Family this week, you can participate in spirit week.
