Botanical Gardens!
We have been focusing on plants the past few weeks. We learned about their different parts and functions. We also learned about their life cycles and we even grew our own pinto bean plants in class.
We were so excited when we found out we were going to be able to go to the Missouri Botanical Gardens for our first field trip this year!
When we arrived at the gardens we were split into groups for guided tours. We visited multiple greenhouses that represented different biomes. Our guides were friendly and very informative. They even quizzed us on what we knew.
After we explored the garden, we visited the Wyland Exhibit and learned about keeping our water clean!
We even got to take part in creating a mural outside! We were cold outside but we toughed through it!
Afterwards we got on the bus and rode to Tower Grove Park. We had lunch and played on the playground. It was a blast!

This Week in Third Grade! 10/14
Reading: We are working hard on studying and analyzing the characters in our stories. This week we are specifically focusing on how certain characters keep important objects near to them, and sometimes they act out of character. We are also looking at the mannerisms of the people who surround our characters, and their actions toward them.
It is a blue week for reading response journals.
Writing:
We are stepping back and looking at the pieces we have been working so hard on during writing. We are really focusing on what the heart of our story is, and how we can organize it in a way that will make the most sense to our audiences.
Math:
We are testing on Monday, and beginning our subtraction unit. Subtraction is sometimes very frustrating to students, it is important that we encourage our young mathematicians to look back and make sure that their answers make sense. I will be posting supplemental videos for students to watch to help them with their homework.
Science:
This week we are learning about how plants reproduce, and beginning to learn about the plant life cycle!
Social Studies:
We are still learning about our country's geography. We will be having a test on Friday.
Other Important Information:
HALF DAY ON FRIDAY! Students will be released at 11:50! They will not eat lunch at school! PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR STUDENT KNOWS HOW THEY WILL BE GETTING HOME!
Report cards will be released next week.
Parent Teacher Conferences: There are still a few families that have not yet signed up for parent teacher conferences. Please let me know when you are available to meet. If you are unable to attend conferences on October 28 or October 30 I am willing to set up another time, Skype, facetime, or do a phone conference.
Field Trip Permission Slips: Please return permission slips and $4.25 for our field trip on October 22 before Wednesday. If you are able to come help out, please make sure you check the box on the permission slip. We LOVE volunteers! :)

QR Code Scanners
We have been working hard in our math stations everyday! One of our newest stations require students to solve a problem. Students are then able to scan a QR code to find their answer, and they LOVE it!
Students are able to bring their devices to school to use it for this station. I am going to ask that you download ANY QR code app at home if your student is going to use a device at this station. Here is a link to the free app that I have downloaded on my iPad.
QR Reader
Note: Students are able to use my iPad at this station if they do not have a device, or if an adult does not want to download it for them.
