Disability Awareness Day!

We was ability awareness day at Sappington. Third and fourth grade students had the opportunity to talk with different individuals who either have a disability or represent an organization that help people with specific disabilities. Here's a look at what we did:
We talked to some representatives from Paraquad about different types of disabilities. We learn about physical, intellectual, and learning disabilities.

Steve showed us some of his tools that help him with everyday activities. One of our favorite things he shared with us was the type of cushion that he uses with his wheel chair. We learned that this is a special cushion that helps blood circulation. He even let a few of us try it out!

We also learned about what resources are available for people with visual and hearing impairments! We had the opportunity to read Braille, and write our own names in Braille. We used Easter egg cartons to help determine the alphabet.

Some of us had the opportunity to even make real Braille by poking a piece of think paper with a special tool.

Overall we had a fantastic day of learning!
