This Week in Third Grade 11/18

Reading:  In reading we will be focusing on reading nonfiction text. By the end of the week students will monitor themselves by stopping and thinking about the information they have just read. They will begin to organize the information while they are reading.

Writing:  We will begin writing expository text this week! Students are going to be looking at different mentor texts to see how authors use text features and various structures to entertain and inform their readers.

Math: We finished our unit on money, and we are starting to learn about time! On Friday we talked about telling time to the nearest minute, and we will continue this throughout the week. We will even learn how to calculate elapsed time later this week!

Science: We just finished talking about the different ways scientist classify animals by their characteristics and behaviors. This week we will focus on how some of those characteristics and behaviors are actually inherited from their parents, where others are learned or acquired.

Social Studies: This week will end our conversations on local government, and begin to focus on state government.

Other:
Inflatables will be at Sappington through Tuesday.

On Wednesday, we will have an assembly to celebrate our Blue Ribbon Award. Students will be given a t-shirt Wednesday morning to wear to the assembly. Please make sure that your child is wearing something where it will be easy to slip a t-shirt over, or change very quickly.

Friday is Sappington's 2nd Annual Warm Up the Night! The chili tasting will begin at 5:30 PM. Make sure you come out and watch the teachers take on SPTG in the volleyball game that starts at 6:30 PM.
